March 18th – Polaroid

I was working on an example of something for a student and decided to offer this simple, yet textured Polaroid-ish photo frame icon (512 by 512 pixels) for anyone that might need it.

You should be able to pick it up on GraphicRiver really soon:

As a bonus, it includes a font I made of my quick-fast handwriting style … called "Thin Oscar".

If for some reason, they don’t like it, I’ll just offer it for free from here. Enjoy!

Of my favorite things I did on Wednesday (there were a few), definitely the highlight was the CE Seminar on creating “Effective Lesson Plans” … excellent material that was covered really well and offered lots of insight for the curriculum revisions I’ll be working on next month.

The worship service was fantastic this Sunday at Southside … uplifting and so beneficial in strengthening my resolve. Of the many points in Ron’s sermon, two stood out to me:

1. The reason we find our prayer lives inadequate, is because we live cluttered lives and cannot hear God.

2. To understand your circumstances, good or bad, God’s perspective is vital.

After church Jodie, Courtney, Miriam and I enjoyed a super cheap and super delicious lunch of pizza slices and churros at Sam’s club. We followed that up with a trip to Goodwill, where I managed to pick up Hawk Nelson’s newest album for $2.99 and a new spiffy jacket (hence the ‘frontin’ pose art). Thanks for the birthday cash, Margie! Woo!

I wandered around the place with a weirdly flat Napoleon Dynamite rubber face on for a while before we headed over to Target to buy Jodie some new maternity pants … yes, she is looking more preggers each day ;)

We ended the night with wonderful fun at Steph and Colby’s with the second of hopefully many “Sunday Family Fun Nights” … Colby cooked up some delic burgers, we watched the shuttle launch and I accidentally said a bad word during “Balderdash” because someone didn’t know how to properly abbreviate the word “association”. Fun, right?

Day #10 – Black

As much as I dislike clothes shopping that doesn’t happen in a thrift store, I needed a specific set of items for what I planned to wear to Stephanie and Colby’s wedding and Goodwill wasn’t cutting it. I had to make a couple of different stops around the loop and borrow a black suit jacket for Ben, but it all came together nicely.

Black shirt, black pants, black socks, black vest, black belt, black tie and just for good measure, a new pair of black sunglasses. Oh and of course, the piÃ¨ce de rÃ©sistance, brand new black and white Chuck Taylors. Straight up Johnny Cash, with just a hint of Oscar fun. Hehe.

Day #2 – Scale

All the work I have been putting into tracking my daily calorie intake (using the fantastic and free Lose It iPhone app) seems somewhat muddled at times by the mechanical floor scale I have been using. Sure, it is usually only about 3 pounds off, but when trying to be daily encouraged (despite the slow process of losing weight), being able to track down to the ounce is exciting indeed.

FYI, Target had a nice $20 scale, while all of Wal-Mart’s were ~$25 and up (and oddly set to kg). Oh, and if a 3 lb. inconsistency sounds totally acceptable to you, I have a slightly-used mechanical scale that is yours for the taking.

It is currently 7:00 am the following day, and I am still hyped up on the rush that is iPhone 3G.

My class ran for close to the entire 8 hours, so we (Jodie and I) didn’t get to the Apple Store at Millenia until around 6:30pm. Luckily, Courtney was holding spots for us.

Four or so hours later, we had Chris the Apple Genius help us purchase and set up both of our iPhones. Then it was another 1/2 hour or more just hanging out in the store, drooling about the ease-of-setup that MobileMe made of our contacts, calendars and email.

Leaving the Mall near-midnight (with still about 20-35 people still waiting in line), Courtney and I heading to the LOOP for a midnight showing of “Hellboy II”. I am a big fan of Mignola’s art and writing, so I really enjoyed the show. After a quick ride home, while watching “David Blain spoofs” on YouTube and playing around with Midomi, we all hung out at the house until everyone else feel asleep.

Which brings me to my current state of “ready-to-finally-fall-asleep-ness”. Apple, I had a great day. AT&T, for shame. Del Torro, nice work bringing some much appreciated character detail and creepy crawly organic-ness to the Hellboy movie franchise. Everyone else, enjoy this little sketch for today’s Illustration Friday theme of “foggy”. It came about as I alternated between sitting and standing in the iPhone line … which is why it is on the back of my iPhone 3G flyer. Night!

So I have really been enjoying the thrift store shopping I have been doing lately. Some new shirts, an electric pencil sharpener, and more wonderful goodies.

Besides two MXPX albums that I didn’t already have, the two books I picked up this weekend at the local Christian thrift store are probably what I am most excited about. A Wrinkle in Time and Loser by Jerry Spinelli (my favorite childhood author). Yay!

(These LPs, by the way, are Michelle’s. I am working on fixing her record player so that those Journey and Benatar albums I have can get some run time. ;)
