A quick sketch entry that I did for last friday's Illustration Friday theme of "artificial". For me the word equaled something robot-y, so here you go.

I have always loved the winged mech style of everything Gundam (though I have still to watch much of the apparently 30+ years of the show), so that is why I was trying for something a bit angular with this. It's a bit of a departure from my usual monster goodness, but I think it might be time for a [at least temporary] change.

My entry for this week's Illustration Friday theme of "linked" ... a simple sketch in Illustrator. I had planned to color this, but I haven't been using the Blob Brush as much I as I usually do as of late and it took longer than I wanted to get to this point. I might color it later on, but more than likely, it will stay in this pretty pre-pro state.

I thought these guys looked kinda fun linked together and originally was going to give them a shared pair of creature feet and a kinda bulbous belly, but that looked too gross. With the simplified face on each of them and the little antennae, they felt better suited for robots, anyway.

I did up this week’s piece, for the Illustration Friday theme of “similar”, on the back of a party plate, during the recent game night at Jean Marie Cannon’s place.

I was thinking a lot about doing something with Anberlin’s great song “Dismantle. Repair.”, but when pencil went to paper, this is what came out. Could’a been because I was watching an episode of “That 70’s Show” while drawing it, but I doubt that had any effect. I guess I don’t really have any particular reason that it is about a broken robot … though, last week I did find an old illustration I had done last year that had another robot with a dismembered arm. It is some where on my Flickr page … you can look for it.

Eric’s anxiousness to see the sketch I drew during today’s sermon inspired me to work up this piece. I went ahead and uploaded the original photo I took, in case you want to play the “Boy’s Life” game of spotting what is different. ;) Enjoy.

He powers up and starts his day;
a few others, in tow, follow his way.
He thinks: “The day will end as the rest”
“Empty, lonely … defeated, at best.”

Stark is his joy and trembling is his hand,
to stumble upon a treasure, so unplanned.
“Consume, relish and to yourself entreat;
rare is the day when love is secured,
while a heart still able to beat!”

Day #15 – Enjoy the lines … I think I through with just the Sharpie approach … it keeps giving me loose and thick and I want detailed.

Sponges dance on sandy shores,
while moon-lit lizards contemplate bubbly conversations;
Knob nose-ed box antennae prance;
Disco never felt so good.

If you feel as trapped as he, maybe we should talk?

Sorry for the delay on this one … but here is Day #5. Clean lines and some fun abstractions, but definitely on the weird side.
