IF – Sight

IF – Sight

Posted on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 under Sketches Video | 1 comment

For last week's Illustration Friday theme of "sight", I actually set the record button on, so you can actually check out a bit of my process in Illustrator below. It was even more fun, as I drew this while talking end-of-the-world conspiracy theories with my dad. If you want, you can also check out the finished product on Flickr.

Comeback Trailers

Posted on Saturday, May 19th, 2012 under Life | No comments

I know it's been a while, but we are back! Hanging around the Manor today, we decided to join in some trailer fun. Check 'em out and chime in if you want.

Extraterrestrial:
"Boo for just a teaser trailer! But this looks like fun." - Oscar

Polisse:
"Well at least the music sounds good." - Jodie
"I don't know why I didn't think there wouldn't be black French people." - Rebecca

Behind the Black Rainbow:
"I'm intrigued right now but I think ...

Vote my Threadless – Rainbow Ralph

Posted on Sunday, May 6th, 2012 under Design | No comments

Here's another new submission I have made to Threadless; this time it is for their general contest, so no special theme and just fun. I've had a back log of these guys for a while now, so I hope you (and the Threadless community) are liking them.

The puking unicorn came from a Google Hangout session I had a few months ago with some of the gang from work. We were testing out the idea of ...

Trailers in a Pinch

Posted on Monday, July 19th, 2010 under Reviews | No comments

While waiting for Inception to start last night with Jodie and friends at the Regal in Waterford, I managed to jot down some quick thoughts on upcoming movies ...

Due Date
Oscar - Um. I don't really think Zach Galifianakis is very funny, so this looks 'ight to pretty awful.

The Social Network
Oscar - I typically consider Facebook a waste of time ... and, this movie will make a great companion to that consideration, me thinks.

Wall Street - ...

IF : Dip

Here is my entry for this week's Illustration Friday theme of "dip" ... it goes out to my wife, Jodie, who is convinced the time is right for swimming, sun-ing and in general heading to the beach. I say it's still spring.

This is all vector, mixing some Brush strokes, the Blob Brush, the new (but still lame) in-line Gradient tool and a tad bit of Illustrator's Raster Effects thrown in for fun.

iPhone Zombies

You may have missed the announcement a few weeks ago, but one of my favorite games, Plants vs. Zombies, from one of my favorite Mac game developers, Pop Cap, has just spouted up on the iPhone. Now you can continue to quell some beautifully illustrated zombie madness on the go!

I know Jodie didn't install this on her iPhone, for fear of losing her life to it ... but I had no such qualms. Parcelling out ...

Coffee ‘n Trailers

Coffee ‘n Trailers

It is always such a long time in-between when a bunch of us can get together and watch trailers as a group, so this last time we made sure to knock out quite a few ... and since we happened to be up by the mall, we started the night with some warming Starbucks. Yum.

Daily Sketch – Got to Go

Posted on Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 under Life Sketches | No comments

Along with Norm, I have been on this kick lately to drink more water... whether it's of the tap, iced or vitamin variety. For the most part it has been great ... you feel less thirsty, gives you something to put in your "I Heart Jim Halpert" coffee mug ... all that good stuff. Sadly, though, it also has the side-effect of forcing me need to visit the restroom like every 1/2 hour. And sometimes, ...

Trailering On

Posted on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

Just a few more trailer reviews ... because I can, because Hollywood keeps putting them out and because my brain needs so many breaks between teaching, code and everything else. Enjoy!

Dare
I watched the trailer because it had Emmy Rossum and I really liked her in Phantom of the Opera, but this just looks silly. Especially that I guessed if there was a play in this movie, it would be A Streetcar Named Desire ... and ...

Beard

Posted on Sunday, September 27th, 2009 under Life Sketches | No comments

Jodie and I saw this guy walking down John Young yesterday, and I kid you not ... this is exactly what his beard and mustache combo looked like. It was big, fluffy, and so crazy long. It was also a misty white, with yellow/creme brown colored ends, but that is besides the point.

I'm not at all sure where he was headed or what was in his plastic bag, but he looks like a special breed ...

Five Minutes of Trailers

Posted on Monday, August 17th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

No joke. Courtney, Jimison, Jodie and I literally only got to watch eight trailers together last night ... partly due to the slow wireless traffic available to us non-pirates [cough cough] and also because Jimjamijimerson only had a small window of time available before his pumpkin carriage turned back into a jack'o'lantern ... or something like that. Still, it was a fun time.

How I Got Lost
Jimison - "I just got lost in that trailer"
Oscar - ...

Happy Birthday Margie!

Posted on Sunday, July 26th, 2009 under Life Sketches | No comments

It is Jessica's idea, but this is what I drew up for Margie's birthday. I did an initial version, then worked ye ol tracing paper overlay magic to clean it up before a proper scan.
I still don't know where the quote is from, but I like it: "One by one, the penguins slowly steal my sanity".

Fun with Destroying Interfaces

Posted on Thursday, June 4th, 2009 under Design | No comments

Just a quick post … last night we had a good time in class talking about some of the fun interface gags that have been finding their way online. If you haven’t seen some of the innovative stuff Apple and Quicksilver have done with their sites and adverts, be sure to check ‘em out! You might also want to watch the cool Wario and HEMA interface destructions.

Day #15 – LEGOs

Posted on Thursday, January 15th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

I’ve been seeing all these really nifty iPhone stands lately and not wanting to spend any real money on them, I decided to go the home-brew route and make my own out of LEGOs. Four hours later I found myself in the living room surrounded by pieces and no recollection of what I had been doing prior to the happy fun LEGO time.Although it is not as sleek and branded as some of the alternatives, ...

Day #8 – Draw

Posted on Thursday, January 8th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

Wednesday morning, afternoon and night were completely filled with Chick-fil-A awesomeness. With the unbelievable amount of free food, crazy high-tension Speed UNO games and my mom singing along to Flo Rida’s “Low” … it was almost more fun than I could of handled! In case you are wondering how someone could possibly have to draw 16 cards in UNO … you clearly haven’t played UNO with our house rules. Stop by some time and we’ll show ...

Day #7 – Loser

Posted on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

So my family has only had a Nintendo Wii for like 11 days and already Margie is the king of Boxing, David has triple Pro status and even my visually-challenged father is killing it in Wii Bowling. I seriously just watched him bowl a straight Turkey! Gah!Despite my best efforts and months of prior ‘mote and Nunchuk experience, I still got schooled … especially by Margie. My quick one-two jab combos were no match for ...

Day #1 – Leap

Posted on Thursday, January 1st, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

Last night was filled with so many friends, fireworks, shish-kabobs and fun, but definitely leaping over fireworks is still my favorite New Year’s Eve tradition. Thanks for that one, Pressly! Thanks everyone that came out… bringing in 2009 over chips, dips, taquitoes and some sweet Mario Kart action is definitely where it is at! Oh and for those of you that were there for it, we also go to see the new Flight of the Conchords ...

Fun with Collective Nouns

Posted on Thursday, December 11th, 2008 under Writings | No comments

Over a wonderfully tasty lunch of Sonny’s hamburgers (oh, yes … they are the best!), Courtney, Jimision and I had some fun with what we first called “bunch of’s” and “grouping terms”, then later found out were actually collective nouns. Here are the ones we came up with … a few of which are a bit unorthodox ;) :Napkin 1a murder of crowsa herd of sheepa hive of villanya pod of whalesa flock of geesea ...

IF : Similar

Posted on Monday, December 8th, 2008 under Sketches | No comments

Found in this turmoil of evil, among the swirly of monster fur and lava-hot buzzing of robot lasers, emerges a bond; a brotherhood footed in the love of music and sleek lickable gadgetry.I did up this week’s piece, for the Illustration Friday theme of “similar”, on the back of a party plate, during the recent game night at Jean Marie Cannon’s place.

Trailers Gore Galore

Posted on Monday, September 24th, 2007 under Reviews | No comments

So I know that I have been hitting the movie trailers pretty hard this week, but really, what is wrong with that? Here I go again, this time with some trailers that Jodie probably won’t want to watch with me.Saw IV – Wow. Not really much of a trailer at all … but then again, I haven’t really followed the series, so I don’t have anything invested in another sequel.Hatchet – Uh … this just ...
