Coffee ‘n Trailers

Coffee ‘n Trailers

Posted on Monday, February 8th, 2010 under Reviews | No comments

It is always such a long time in-between when a bunch of us can get together and watch trailers as a group, so this last time we made sure to knock out quite a few ... and since we happened to be up by the mall, we started the night with some warming Starbucks. Yum.

Trimming the Trailers

Trimming the Trailers

Posted on Friday, February 5th, 2010 under Reviews | No comments

Since I have been busy working on this site's redesign, I have a bunch of trailer that have just been sitting in my queue, waiting to be watching. I actually got sometime last night to watch at least these guys, of which I am most excited for the upcoming animated feature films.

When in Rome
Rome and Kristen Bell? Well ... I know at least two girls that will be watching this.

Robin Hood
Awesome. Aside from the extensive ...

Astro Boy (2009)

Posted on Thursday, December 31st, 2009 under Reviews Sketches | No comments

3 out of 5 butt-deployed machine gunsThe other movie I got to enjoy on my double-feature cheap theater Sunday was Astro Boy and even though I wasn't crazy about the overall execution of the film, there were some really great pieces. I loved all of the character designs by Imagi and most of the voice acting was really well placed (yay for Kristen Bell, but not so much for Nick Cage). The big robot Zog ...

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)

Posted on Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 under Reviews Sketches | No comments

4 out of 5 man-eating super-sized turkeysWith Jodie gone for a whole Sunday afternoon, singing at Candlelight for the Mouse, I found myself with hours to spare and a cheap dollar theater nearby in need of someone to watch their movies.

I never read the book as a kid, but I thoroughly enjoyed the great animated adaptation of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The voice-acting was wonderful (I love most things Bill Hader is in), ...

Finally Friendly Trailers

Posted on Sunday, December 13th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

Finally! Courtney and Jodie are back in the loop with me for this big ol' set of movie trailers. I hope you enjoy ... I know I had a much better time playing them back from my MacBook Pro to the TV, thanks to the new QuickTime Player. It now allows for fullscreen playback on the secondary monitor while still allowing keyboard control and application switching on the main monitor.

Oh and I know that there ...

Trailer Me Once

Shake Hands With the Devil
There is something really hypnotizing about that guy's big mustache ...

Eichmann
Interesting. I still don't know if it is a good thing that so much attention is brought to famously "bad" people in our history as humanity. It seems half like glorification of an already known evil and half a further exposition of a cruel oddity. Oh well ... at least sixth-graders in History class will have an easier topic for book ...

A thing of fiction …

Posted on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 under Life | No comments

I think I mentioned this in an older comment somewhere, but it was such a great feeling and connection of neuroses when I was able to find an old sci-fi movie I vaguely remember watching as a kid ... based solely on a few scattered impressions and terms searched for via Google. I was reminded of it today, as I was sorting through some old image clippings that needed to be processed and uploaded.

Trailer Bemusing

Posted on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

Another few days of keeping busy with teaching and freelance work, reading through comic books and watching old TV Serieses (?), and painting and drawing whenever I get the chance ... and another set of quick movie trailer reviews, just because I love watching them o' so much.

Mammoth
I have no idea was this movie is about ... but I did really like the title card design. Very fun.

Putting a Face to the Voice

Posted on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

I don't think I've seen this done before, beside at the end of The Simpsons Movie, but I love that IMDB has the animated cast of Atlantis : The Lost Empire tiled up with the actors that voiced them. It is so much fun remembering who the people are behind such funny moments in that movie.

Trailer Me Pink

Posted on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

Here's another slew of quick movie trailer reviews and as a little bonus in case you missed it, a snapshot of the new A-Team movie that is currently in the works. Despite the fact that it has none of the original actors, I am still very excited about this reboot.

The Wolfman
This new trailer just makes me even more excited to see this. The addition of Hugo Weaving is only going to make it better.

Tumbling Trailers

Yet another thick set of movie trailer reviews by Oscar ...

It Might Get Loud
This looks fantastic. It is coming to the Enzian on Sunday ... anyone want to join me in seeing it?

The Book of Eli
Interesting ... I wasn't so sure about Mila Kunis and the whole post-apocalypictic story, but this new trailer makes it all look pretty good. And I've definitely liked Denzel in a few things (thanks to Nathan's constant prodding), so this ...

On the Trail

Posted on Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

Just a few more quick trailer reviews and then you will be on your way ...

Astro Boy
I never really read the comics, but have always admired the look of this franchise from afar. I'm really excited about this movie!

Precious
I think we already watched this trailer with Co and Jimison, but I guess it showed up again in the Apple feed because the trailer has been updated with endorsements ... still plan to skip this one.

Darth Vader Wants You

Posted on Sunday, October 11th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

Nick had asked for this a long while ago, but I finally got some time this weekend to play around with big inks and more of that nice heavy white paper Dad gave me.

This piece is, of course, based on James Montgomery Flagg's iconic "Uncle Sam" recruitment poster and was a lot of fun to ink out in a negative style for the highlights.

I've strayed from it a bit, but I think I am back ...

Trailering On

Posted on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

Just a few more trailer reviews ... because I can, because Hollywood keeps putting them out and because my brain needs so many breaks between teaching, code and everything else. Enjoy!

Dare
I watched the trailer because it had Emmy Rossum and I really liked her in Phantom of the Opera, but this just looks silly. Especially that I guessed if there was a play in this movie, it would be A Streetcar Named Desire ... and ...

Ketchup Trailers

Just a few quick thoughts to catch me up on Apple's wonderful RSS feed ...

Despicable Me
Oh this looks like fun! Thanks to the great Character Design blog for pointing it out!

Ong Bak 2
Oh yea! This looks sweet! I am so ready for some new Tony Jaa fun. I also don't own The Protector yet ... if anyone is looking for gifts ;)

Trailers By Me

Just a couple of quick words on a few trailers, then back to work ...

Avatar
Sure it looks visually interesting, but I hope their is more than just computer-generated elements pushing this movie ... mainly because I am not THAT impressed with the 3D. Like Alex Albrecht said, "it is basically the Final Fantasy movie plus render time".

THE WOLFMAN
This looks fantastic. The cast is strong, I am intrigued by the visual style and it feels like ...

Eleanor

Posted on Monday, September 7th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

Despite having to endure some pretty weak dialogue and plot points (some of which I apparently used to enjoy), I will always still watch and love Gone in 60 Seconds ... if for nothing else than getting to see that beautiful '67 Shelby Mustang GT 500.

I still have yet to see the H.B. Halicki's 1974 original, but it is interesting that the Eleanor in his film is actually the 1973 Mach 1 Mustang.

I tried my ...

Five Minutes of Trailers

Posted on Monday, August 17th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

No joke. Courtney, Jimison, Jodie and I literally only got to watch eight trailers together last night ... partly due to the slow wireless traffic available to us non-pirates [cough cough] and also because Jimjamijimerson only had a small window of time available before his pumpkin carriage turned back into a jack'o'lantern ... or something like that. Still, it was a fun time.

How I Got Lost
Jimison - "I just got lost in that trailer"
Oscar - ...

Pinchers of Peril

Posted on Monday, August 3rd, 2009 under Life Sketches | No comments

On Saturday, Courtney and I happened to catch a bit of "The Goonies" on TV ... the only way I'll watch it, since I still don't agree with its outdate PG rating and prolific cursing.

Since "Data" is of course my favorite goonie, I thought this sketch would be appropriate.

Portrait : John Wayne

Posted on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

Here is another piece in the portrait series … thanks to my dad’s love for John Wayne. Such a great part of my childhood. The Alamo, The Green Berets, McLintock!, Hellfighters and so many more …If you want, you can see the original image here. I did this piece on the deliciously sweet Wacom Cintiq 21UX that I am still borrowing from Full Sail. Every brush stroke is like variable-weight vanilla frosting.

Portrait : Bob Marley

Posted on Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

I decided for the next few days/weeks to try my hand at portrait drawings … Since, I frequently find myself really disliking any sketches or illustrations I try to create of actual people, I figured it might be helpful to actually try and get better at it.Here is the first of the series … thanks in part to Heather quoting Bob Marley lyrics in her status the other day.If you want, you can see the ...

Mostly boring Movie Trailers

Posted on Monday, March 9th, 2009 under Reviews | No comments

It has been a while, but we finally got a few people together for another night of movie trailer watching. Sadly (or maybe not … depending on how you look at it), most were pretty lame film concepts that either fell into the category of extra boring documentaries or overly hyped re-hashings of childhood favorites. Still, Courtney, Jodie, Jimison 1, Jimison 2 (Johnny’s brother joined us) and I had a pretty fun time, so let’s ...

Day #11 – Indiana

Posted on Sunday, January 11th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

We spent Sunday doing what Sundays where meant for: church at Southside, worship (with a few fantastic Hillsong and Passion songs, including God of This City … wonderful), yummy lunch at Moe’s, shopping in the LOOP and tons of lounging around watching the Indiana Jones quad-logy (isn’t that what a four part trilogy is called?).The Last Crusade is definitely my favorite and I am still afraid of/completely loathe the Temple of Doom.

Day #9 – Cinema Display

Posted on Friday, January 9th, 2009 under Sketches | No comments

This pretty much sums up my feelings about the new 20-inch Cinema Displays that Full Sail purchased for our department.Just like Lloyd Dobler, I would stand out in the rain for love … sure in this case it is for all 1,764,000 of those beautiful Apple-crafted pixels, but I think it still wholly applies.
