Whether its on paper, plastic, cardboard or whatnot … Oscar is always drawing and this is the place to see some of the results.

Sometimes ... having to deal with drama is annoying.
On a lighter note, this was lots of fun to draw and shade, thanks to a Indigo Blue Prismacolor pencil I found at work. The yellow I added in Photoshop.
On another note, I am again under my daily calorie allowances, thanks to the fabulous Lose It iPhone application. If you want to join me, just add me as a friend in the app.

Jodie and I had great time with a gang of FCC kids tonight ... exchanging presents, playing Nerts (Erin and Seth won, but Courtney and Christie were in a close second), enjoying pizza and homemade holiday treats ... and of course, rocking some sweet Mario Kart : Double Dash action.
Despite that it is like an almost 8 year old game, it is still one of my favorites for the Gamecube/Wii. The newest MK added some ...

This is just a quick daily sketch for Friday ... me in a new shirt and sweater to watch Jodie's performance in FCC's Night of Noel. I apologize for the rough lines ... I'm still getting back into the habit of drawing all the time. ;)
I actually had to repeat the colors a few times to get them right. I tried working them up first using Crayola markers, but ended up re-doing most of the ...

Here is my submission to this week's Illustration Friday theme of "crunchy". Nothing too fancy ... just having some fun.
I know it has been a while since I have posted anything longer than 140 characters, but hopefully you have been enjoying all of the 30 minute illustrations and they make up for a homepage full of tweets. They do ... right??

My simple and fun entry for tonight's Illustration Friday theme of "skinny" ... mainly just me playing around with simple shapes and vectors. Enjoy!

Since I didn't have a Wacom tablet around, my daily person drawing (and coincidentally my Illustration Friday entry) was done in the great Brushes iPhone app.

All the unnecessary hatin' that has been happening lately toward the Flash platform has been getting out of hand and definitely on my nerves ... so I have decided to start animating small little nuggets of fun into some of my drawings here on the blog. If you are not among the misinformed and propaganda-gobbling masses, please enjoy! Of course, I am also adding a nice bit of accessibility for all the iPhone users, ...

Nick had asked for this a long while ago, but I finally got some time this weekend to play around with big inks and more of that nice heavy white paper Dad gave me.
This piece is, of course, based on James Montgomery Flagg's iconic "Uncle Sam" recruitment poster and was a lot of fun to ink out in a negative style for the highlights.
I've strayed from it a bit, but I think I am back ...

One of my favorite Action Script-ers to follow, Felix Turner of AirTight Interactive, recently posted about all of the applications, plugins and resources he uses for Flash development. It is definitely a list worth checking out (as are many of the lists compiled by the great Smashing Magazine) and if nothing else, it gave me a reason to draw this nerdy guy, marking out all of the languages and frameworks I am either working with ...

A cute lil dinosaur I drew up for Michelle's pita leftovers the other night. I have been wanting for a while to start a daily comic featuring a dino like this ... maybe soon??
I'm not really sure what it would be about or if it would even work to draw 'em that often, but after years of seeing the great things that Jim Davis(cartoonist) does with Garfield and Charles Shultz with Peanuts ... how could ...

A sneak peek of the monster I drew for this month and the upcoming revamping of the Dra Studio website. I was getting really frustrated with both all of my physical inking solutions ... my brush-tip markers were dull and I still can't get a steady flow running from the quills.
So after trying three times, I just gave up and finished this guy off in Illustrator with the nifty new blob brush.

Jodie and I saw this guy walking down John Young yesterday, and I kid you not ... this is exactly what his beard and mustache combo looked like. It was big, fluffy, and so crazy long. It was also a misty white, with yellow/creme brown colored ends, but that is besides the point.
I'm not at all sure where he was headed or what was in his plastic bag, but he looks like a special breed ...

My mother only taught me a few things to do with a banana that is taking a turn towards the "caca". You can either make some delicious banana bread or a smooth and icey banana milkshake. I decided to go with the blend and document all of the yummy ingredients. Normally, it would need vanilla ice cream, but I happened to use strawberry for tonight's icey treat.
On an interesting side note, since our new place ...

Despite having to endure some pretty weak dialogue and plot points (some of which I apparently used to enjoy), I will always still watch and love Gone in 60 Seconds ... if for nothing else than getting to see that beautiful '67 Shelby Mustang GT 500.
I still have yet to see the H.B. Halicki's 1974 original, but it is interesting that the Eleanor in his film is actually the 1973 Mach 1 Mustang.
I tried my ...

Something special I drew just for Kane Miller's birthday. "Kane Smash, indeed!"
Simple pencils covered by some nice detailed Sakura Pigma Micron pens, ranging from 005 - 08 size. I should have some higher-res photos of it up on Flickr soon.

On Saturday, Courtney and I happened to catch a bit of "The Goonies" on TV ... the only way I'll watch it, since I still don't agree with its outdate PG rating and prolific cursing.
Since "Data" is of course my favorite goonie, I thought this sketch would be appropriate.

My simple entry into this week's kinda weak Illustration Friday topic of "modify". A couple of versions on paper and tracing then a quick work up in Photoshop.

On Sunday, Jodie and I had a great time celebrating our 7 year anniversary. It was technically a day early, but that was only because my current Full Sail teaching schedule has me coming home pretty late/early (depends on how you look at it).
We enjoyed our traditional meal at the Cheesecake Factory and a late showing of Disney/Pixar's amazing UP, sharing memories, laughs and a few tears.
We quoted movies, talked about friends and all that ...

On Saturday Jodie got a chance to cut my hair, so I am back to the mohawk goodness. I do think I look a bit like a Muppet character in the reflection, but I happen to like how all the stippling turned out.
Since we were joking about it during an iChat conversation, I was going to draw Jen getting pushed off her balcony by Courtney because Courtney and I were hungry and Jen wouldn't let ...

It is Jessica's idea, but this is what I drew up for Margie's birthday. I did an initial version, then worked ye ol tracing paper overlay magic to clean it up before a proper scan.
I still don't know where the quote is from, but I like it: "One by one, the penguins slowly steal my sanity".

While I was in Building 2 at Full Sail today, waiting for IT to install the complete Adobe Web Premium Collection on my MBP, I had a chance to submit an entry for this week's Illustration Friday:http://illustrationfriday.com theme of "idle".
If my ears look big, I'm going to blame it on the fact that I haven't draw dailies in a while and not on the possible fact that they are big ;)
The overall scan is pretty ...

Something quick I whipped up for Brandon.
Sadly, the type is not mine ... my pens weren't liking the blue lead I drew this piece with, so my type came out all bloated. This is the beautiful "Peixe Frito" by Billy Argel.

Rocky Ricardo from Oscar Cortez on Vimeo.
Here is another piece done in the wonderful Brushes iPhone app, on the way to Cocoa Beach. I didn't have any specific inspiration for it, but did think about that scripture in Mark:
The Parable of the Sower
Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all ...
