Daily Planet Press Badge

Posted on Friday, October 30th, 2015 under Downloads | No comments

My little sister asked me to add her photo into a press badge for the Daily Planet as part of a Lois Lane costume. I of course took that to mean "re-create a vector template of the press badge from Smallville, bro". And it was surprisingly easier than expected ... thanks in no small part the early 2000's style graphics involved.

The actually Daily Planet globe vector came from the great Brands of the World repository, while the logotype ...

Flip Clock

Flip Clock

Posted on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014 under Downloads | No comments

Anyone out there still using the Dashboard on Mac OS X? Anyone else worried that the rumored OS redesign that Jony Ive is working on will cut out this handy little environment?

I still use it on a daily basis for lots of helpful things, including the ever-so wonderful Delivery Status, HTML Entities, Minutes, iStat Pro and CharacterPal widgets, so I hope it isn't going any where.

I am thinking it might be fun to make something ...

SafeBrowse Widget

SafeBrowse Widget

Posted on Thursday, November 4th, 2010 under Downloads | No comments

Due to so many malicious attacks on MT's servers lately, I've been having to check lots of client sites for malicious code and in the process, I've found Google's Webmaster Tools and their Safe Browsing Diagnostic Page to be wonderfully helpful.

It is kinda of cumbersome having to keep the Safe Browsing URL around and prepend it to every site I wanted to check, so in an effort to ease the pain, I threw together a ...

Google IO Wallpaper

Google IO Wallpaper

Posted on Thursday, May 27th, 2010 under Downloads | No comments

This afternoon I got a chance to watch Day 2 of Google's IO Developer Event (the Android Keynote, in particular) and I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. Not only was it great to see such a strong commitment from Google toward an open platform that is working to strongly support Flash, but the sheer momentum of their device and user-adoption numbers was enough to have me wondering about Android-based iPhone alternatives (e.g. ...

IF – Ahead

IF – Ahead

Posted on Monday, April 26th, 2010 under Design Downloads | 1 comment

My entry for this past Illustration Friday topic of "ahead" actually comes in a couple of parts. I initially started out with idea of creating a typeface to demonstrate the word, but ended up being distracted by the minutia of the lowercase letters not matching up to what I liked about the uppercase letters. I eventually took the letters I did like and worked up the vector illustration you see here.

Free Apollo 11 Icon

Posted on Saturday, August 1st, 2009 under Downloads | No comments

With all the wonderfulness that happened recently, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, I thought I should join in the fun.

Here is a nice 512 pixel icon of the Apollo 11 mission badge, with a tad bit of Photoshop rendering added in. Download it for your OS X Dock, your Finder sidebar or your Moon-ready project folders. There is even a 48 pixel size for the Windows user among us ... there's ...

Rocky Ricardo from Oscar Cortez on Vimeo.

Here is another piece done in the wonderful Brushes iPhone app, on the way to Cocoa Beach. I didn't have any specific inspiration for it, but did think about that scripture in Mark:

The Parable of the Sower
Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all ...

Platinum Sounds

Posted on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 under Downloads Life | 1 comment

After fiddling with some older older backups, a couple attempts to install from a Mac OS 9 CD and trying to extract files from the "Classic" emulation app, I finally realized that I could get my hands on the original "Platinum Sounds" Apple soundset from Courtney's older IBook G4.

Of course, it was mainly so that I could use them in conjunction with the great Xounds APE haxie from Unsanity ... there is just something ...

Yeti for the iPhone

Posted on Friday, July 10th, 2009 under Downloads News | No comments

Pretty much anytime Mel and I start talking about anything Yeti, I have to draw it. It's like I have this Himalayan fever and the only cure is letting it out with pencil, pen or Wacom stylus.

For this piece I did my typical pencil drawing, covered over with felt-tip marker and then digitized with the normal "Brush" tool in Illustrator ... but once I got to that point, I wasn't entirely happy with it. So ...

Coloring DTD in Coda

Posted on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 under Code Design Downloads | 1 comment

During the DFP lab session yesterday, Norm and my students were having issues validating their XML data files using a couple of the services we normally recommend. Namely, their XML files were showing no errors, despite adding intentional mal-formed tags and whatnot.
It just so happened that Norm was reading through one of FlashTuts newer posts about different methods for setting up a Flash Development Sandbox and discovered a great Eclipse plugin for writing and validating ...

In my ongoing attempt to fall more and more in love with the “One-Window Web Development” amazingness that is Panic’s Coda app, I have reached another yet milestone. Adding More Coda Books – Version 1

Posted on Saturday, November 29th, 2008 under Code Design Downloads | 33 comments

After Sitepoint showed us all how easy it is to add custom references to the "Books" section of Coda (using their excellent HTML and CSS references as examples), I began my search for even more handy code guides with which to fill out that big empty gray space at Command+6.

Jon Hicks had some good stuff to say, as did the Coda Google Group, but what really got me moving was when I found Ray Brown's ...

How to implement an iPhone-specific stylesheet

Posted on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 under Code Design Downloads | No comments

I am a little late to the game on this, but recently I was creating an iPhone screen optimized version of a site for my personal usage and thought I would share some of my findings.

The InitialThough Apple recommends through the expansive information in its iPhone Developer Connection to implement CSS3 conditional statements to effectively achieve alternate style-sheets for personal computers and for the iPhone, I wasn’t satisfied with the resulting functionality. Yes, it did ...

Template for customizing the new Twitter

Posted on Thursday, September 25th, 2008 under Design Downloads | No comments

With the recent release of the new and updated Twitter, the majority of tweak-able profile design settings were lost and the twitterpated among us have been relegated to only changing the following:Background imageBackground colorLink colorText colorSidebar colorSidebar line colorThat isn’t much to work with, so I decided that with the recent re-styling of my Twitter page, I would share the Photoshop template I used and (hopefully) simplify some of the tedious process of creating ...

I’ve had the words of a song I heard at Status last week stuck in my head for awhile, and after shaking around in my head a bit, this wallpaper is what they turned into. I hope you enjoy, and for those interested, here are my notes from the speaker that night.

IF : Worry

Posted on Saturday, May 24th, 2008 under Design Downloads | No comments

IF : Worry (uploaded by DRA Studio)My entry for this week’s Illustration Friday theme of “worry”. It’s nice and big (1600px wide, to be exact), so feel free to use it as a wallpaper, if you like. Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. – Matthew 6:34

Making better thumbnails

Posted on Sunday, April 20th, 2008 under Design Downloads | No comments

During a recent project, I came across the problem of creating a number image gallery thumbnails at a specific size and saving them into the appropriate folders. Sounds easy, right? There should obviously be a great third-party Mac OS X app already out there for this, right?Apparently not. I mean, there was at one time a great app that I was using to create my thumbnails, but between Mac transfers and not needing that particular ...

Theme – Dark Aurora

Posted on Saturday, June 16th, 2007 under Design Downloads | No comments

For this past week at camp, I created a custom Apple Keynote theme called Dark Aurora. The biggest goal behind it was to make something dark and simple, yet still engaging. It should be perfect for some of your upcoming worship-related events, were limited projector color/contrast is a problem.

You can download the iWork ‘06 version here (if anyone happens to need compatibility with iWork ‘05, just let me know).
