IF : Phobia

Posted on Sunday, September 24th, 2006 under Sketches | No comments

My submission for this week's Illustration Friday theme: Phobia. And if you're looking for a great big list of everyone's favorite fears and frights, check this one out.

Update:

I forgot to talk about the process for this one, so here it is ...

I started out with sketching (#2 pencils) on medium weight drawing paper and followed it through with a mixture of inks; a Pilot Precise V5 for the fine details, a Sakura Pigma brush pen for the border, and a your standard fine-tip Sharpie for the darker stuff.

Scanned the artwork at 300 dpi (line-art setting) into Photoshop on my Canon N650U, and even though I started out by hand-coloring ... I quickly switched to using the paint bucket. Since the artwork and scan were super-clean, I didn't have to do too much work to get the paint bucket filling perfectly. After the fills, I worked up the background color (using a Mask to cut out the white for the letters) and added some "Overlay"-blended gradients behind each word. Finally, I went through and shadowed everything up using that sweet sweet "Burn" tool.

There you have it ... another pretty I.F. all done.

Robot in the Trees
So not only was my recent trip to Goodwill an enormous success because of the BRAND NEW (!!!) Hawk Nelson CD I got for $2.99, but also because of the paint canvas I used to create this beauty. My first every acrylic on canvas (all my other stuff has been on paper, cardstock, poster board, wood, ...
Day #16 – Zero
It has taken me a long while and lots of hard work, but I have finally been able to reach “inbox zero” for all of my e-mail accounts! Woo hoo! It probably helps that I have been limiting the amount of online distractions I’m involved in (yes, I’m looking at you, Facebook-addicts), as well as ...

Tuesday, in search of Truancy
An apt name for a post that should really be about all the things I didn't do at work today. What with it being "Take Your Daughter-esque Friend to Work Day", how could I not have been distracted and less productive ... ;). Truthfully, I got quite a bit done at work today ... it is ...
