Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)

Posted on Saturday, May 21st, 2005 under Reviews | No comments

4 out of 5 smoking hot pistonsDirected by Dominic Sena

You know it's a good movie if whenever it is on TV, you tune in ... even if it just to watch that sweet Shelby Mustang kick around on the city streets.

A well-plotted story of cars and camaraderie, pumped full of enough speed and adrenaline to blow the classical car chase "out your butt," Gone in 60 stands as one of the greatest guy movies out there. The only reason it is getting 4 instead of 5 stars is because the cars are actually being stolen and what would Helen Raines say if I was totally for it? Really? She doesn't mind anymore? Cool.

One word of advice ... be wary of the original 1974 version of this hit flick ... I hear it bites like a Doberman with rabies. Except for the chase scene; that is supposed to be kinda cool.

Transporter 2 (2005)
3 out of 5 car-flipping crazy stuntsDirected by Louis Leterrier Adam and I finished this one today and it was definitely enjoyable. Plenty of martial arts film influences, crazy car-chase sequences, and wild gun play. I could have done with less of the occasional cheesy acting on the part Alessandro Gassman ... with his one line ...

Got somethin' to say? This is the place ... just try to play nice.

[...] having to endure some pretty weak dialogue and plot points (some of which I apparently used to enjoy), I will always still watch and love Gone in 60 Seconds … if for nothing else [...]
