3 Jun 2009I haven’t posted an update recently because I am still lacking the words necessary to show the appreciation and love that my wife, myself and our families have for all of you, your support and your prayers. There has not been a day yet where God hasn’t put someone’s email, text, phone call, letter, card, etc. before us as encouragement, as well as emotional and spiritual sustenance. And though we have yet to receive all of Jodie and Max’s medical bills, we are already seeing God provide gifts from our friends and family (and complete strangers that only know Max through this website!) that will help us in that area.
We enjoyed the company of so many at Max’s celebration and memorial … and in a rarity that hasn’t happened in years because of schedules and addresses, we had the entire immediate Cortez family all together in one place.
There is more I want to share, but for now … know that Jodie and I love you … and that it is God that sustains …
“Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs … I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? – Isaiah 46:3-5
Maximillian Alejandro Cortez arrived at 7:48 am on Thursday April 30, 2009, weighing 4 pounds 12 ounces.
He spent 14 days in the NICU at Florida Hospital South, with his mother, father & family, before heading home to Heaven. We are all very excited to see him again.

Dear Oscar and Jodi,
Your faithfulness to praise God in the darkest of times imaginable is truly inspiring. Thank you so much for modeling what Christ-followers SHOULD look like. My prayers for your family continue to be lifted up daily.
I told an abbreviated version of your story Sunday when I got the privilege of preaching a “last minute” sermon due to Steve Jones becoming ill this past weekend. Your faithfulness in the midst of the most severe trials imaginable for parents is an inspiration to us all, and a true testimony to your desire to follow God always. Thank you!
Be God’s,
Scott
